Teledyne Laars Mighty Therm 1/2 HP Pump

Taco 1/2 HP Pump

Laars Heating Systems changed their pump vendor, moving from Bell & Gossett (B&G) to Taco.  B&G utilized pump components from China and this caused many problems.   Parts4heating provided Laars Mighty Therm customers with hundreds of B&G pumps and our customers had countless problems.

The pumps in question are the 1/3, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 HP boiler mounted pumps.  The replacement pumps are available from Parts4heating. The part numbers are:  1/3 HP RA2115101 pump, 1/2 HP RA2115102 pump, 3/4 HP RA2115103 pump, 1 HP RA2115104 pump.  They replace the B&G RA2001700, RA2001800, RA2001900 and A2109700.  In addition, for outdoor boilers, you must purchase a new pump housing assembly 5C3015.   The pump housing is different because the Taco pump is slightly longer than the B&G pump.

The staff at Parts4heating inspects and hand-tests every pump before we ship it.  Even with this Six Sigma process, there were still problems with the B&G pump. We’ve had reports of new pumps leaking upon installation, and of pump motor and pump misalignment causing noisy operation and slower impeller speeds.  Slower impeller speeds allow less water to be pushed through the boiler which reduces the efficiency of the hot water heater.

Hand it to Laars — they had a pump problem and they fixed it, despite the many hours of engineering to change vendors.  That’s responding to your customers’ needs and we admire their actions.
